DOOM says the new Madvillain record is almost done because it's not like he would ever lie, right?

This far into the charade, it’s necessary to make the distinction that Daniel Dumile is DOOM, but one is not necessarily the other. And so while a recent interview ends with DOOM teasing that the long-awaited sequel to Madvillainy is almost done, we’re not buying it. Why would we?

Since bursting onto the scene in his post-KMD days with a prolific onslaught of albums and mixtapes, DOOM’s career’s been better prescribed by false starts, false promises and false pretences. Here’s a guy who sees himself as the director of a character, one he controls when he feels like it and pawns off on actors when he doesn’t.

Collaborating with Madlib on second Madvillain album isn’t the only long talked about album he’s got in the woodwork. There’s also the much anticipated collaboration with Ghostface Killah, which has been in-progress for what feels like the better part of the past ten years. Unsurprisingly, we reported back in December that it’s DOOM holding the whole thing back.

“The ball is in his court, I’m just waiting on him, because I’ve been pressing the issue,” said Ghostface. “It’s going to happen, because we’ve got a lot of records, it’s just the timing. Like, when?”

This latest promise is just more of the same. Dumile’s always known what he’s doing, both as an emcee and as a self-promoter, but neither has really relied on him holding true to his word. That’s why we’re brushing off the little tease he tossed in at the end of an interview with HipHopDX’s Andres Vasquez.

“Watch when you hear the new Madvillain record,” he says. “It’s almost done.”

Sure it is, dude. Just like it was when he talked to the same site a few years back.

“That shit’ll be done within the next two months,” he proclaimed. That was just over 40 months ago. On this one, we’ll wait until Madlib says its ready.
