Word out of Mars is that the Curiosity Rover is going to be premiering will.i.am’s new single on Tuesday, presumably while raising its mechanics up in the air and/or having a good time. Wait, wrong dude.

Anyway, let’s try to rationalize this really quick: NASA’s going to bounce the song out to Mars, then the rover’s going to bounce it back. This is incredibly tedious, but we think we know why: NASA’s on our side.

You can’t blame them for taking a big deal premiere like this, because in spite of how irritating a person he probably is, will.i.am is a name that makes money. NASA needs money, for space things. But we’re calling self-sabotage here, with the premiere process seemingly doing its best to prolong the inevitable best as it can. If there really are martians on the red planet, they’ll take this as a declaration of war.

NASA’s going to stream “Reach for the Stars” (get it!?) on their website tomorrow at 4PM Eastern. Thanks (we think?) to Talking Points Memo for the heads up.
