New study says music is really sad these days

So apparently, not only is popular music getting too loud and too repetitive, but another new study (we love studies!) says that it’s also getting kinda depressing.

The A.V. Club points to science-y findings in the journal Psychology Of Aesthetics, Creativity, And The Arts, which studied over 1,000 top 40 songs from five decades. More songs have apparently dropped in tempo and in key, with more minor chords being used.

The saddest decade was the 90s, when glitzy pop died a while and sad, sad grunge ruled the airwaves. Read more on the science of emo here.
