Converge have finally unveiled the first taste of new music with today’s premiere of “Aimless Arrow,” the lead single off their upcoming album All We Love We Leave Behind. Check out the Max Moore-directed video below, care of Pitchfork. Above you’ll find the album’s lunar cycle inspired artwork, which was drawn as always by vocalist Jacob Bannon

Aside from the usual descriptors of the track being frenetic or chaotic or intense, it strikes immediately as a welcomed blend of the band’s different eras, meshing their ever-increasing metallic fluorishes with the raw fluidity that made albums like When Forever Comes Crashing hold up to years of dissection.

Guitarist (and producer) Kurt Ballou describes the album’s recording process as an organic experience. “There’s no artificial distortion, triggers, or Auto-Tune on this album,” he says, later adding that “it’s real sounds that capture the way the band performs live.”

Jacob Bannon concurs, calling the album their most potent to date. Factor these quotes into an absolute absence of guest contributors and it’s safe to say All We Love We Leave Behind is anything but Axe to Fall 2.0. And amen to that.

All We Love We Leave Behind is out on October 9th through Epitaph, with the vinyl release set to come out through the band’s own Deathwish Inc.
