Music, duh, lends itself pretty naturally to the audio format of a podcast, but comedy has been the one to really flourish as the king of the podcast world. While there may not be as many music/musician-based interview podcasts as there are comedy (or news, or whatever)—not counting people like Marc Maron now expanding into doing musician interviews as well—there are some pretty stellar ones out there.

Here are five of our favourites that we think you’d like too (shameless promotion of our own music podcasts after the list).

Low Times

A musician interview show hosted by Best Show‘s Tom Scharpling as well as Daniel Ralston and Maggie Serota, Low Times features two-to-three feature chats per episode. The most recent episode features a great chat with the New Pornographers’ A.C. Newman, as well as an intro by Ralston recorded in the bedroom of Thursday’s Geoff Rickly, which is just funny. All Songs Considered

We don’t really need to tell you about an NPR podcast, but we do love it, so here it is. A music discovery/fan type show that’s easy to keep on in the background as a sort of new-music playlist. Sometimes there are guests, like the latest episode, where Dan Deacon talks about his amazing new album America and also plays DJ, and is, coincidentally, amazing. [SUBSCRIBE]

Washed Up Emo

An feature interview podcast about the glory days of post-punk and emo might be a bit too niche for a greater audience, but judging how excited some of you were about that Quicksand reunion on Fallon last night, there might be some interested emos amongst us. Warning: the audio isn’t the greatest sometimes. But maybe that’s on purpose. [SUBSCRIBE]

Who Charted

Comedy and music, BFFL! Not exactly any in-depth insight or perspective, but here, some comedians look at the music charts, so you can stay up to date on your Top 40. There are guests, and some movie stuff thrown in there too. [SUBSCRIBE]

Outside the Lines with Rap Genius

Do you like Rap Genius? Do you like podcasts? Perfect. The latest episode has a feature interview with Grand Daddy I.U., but dig back for episodes featuring Kool Keith, the RZA, and lots more. [SUBSCRIBE]

BONUS PODCASTS: As mentioned, AUX has a few quality (not biased) music podcasts of its own:

End Hits is a feature interview podcast hosted by Sam Sutherland. Past episodes feature Andrew W.K., Ani DiFranco, and White Lung’s Mish Way. [SUBSCRIBE]

Pop Hunter is the monthly half-hour live DJ mix from our sister site‘s resident DJs, featuring top 40, hip-hop, and pop, with original remixes, mash-ups, and original beats. It’s as much a party soundtrack as a portal for new music discovery. [SUBSCRIBE]

Hits & Misses is a weekly podcast featuring the AUX editorial team dissecting and making really, really funny jokes about music news. [SUBSCRIBE]
