After a month of finger-twiddling and bureaucratic dilly-dallying, Randy Blythe made a second attempt to post bail yesterday after nearly four weeks behind bars in Prague, accused of a crime he’s yet to be charged with committing. He was forced to pay $400,000, raised from the initial $200,000, a hefty fee that’s being immediately challenged by the prosecution. But in a roundabout way, the challenge might actually be what secures Blythe’s much deserved trip home.

The Gauntlet points out that the challenge starts a timed process which gives the judge five days to rule on the prosecutor’s challenge of the bail. From there, the judge has another 5 days to write or publish his decision, at which point Blythe either has to be formally charged or released without condition.

This all comes after Blythe’s lawyer was interviewed on a Czech radio station and said he expects his client to be headed home soon, adding that he’ll likely have to return at some point for a trial.

“Everything indicates that he will be allowed to travel home, but he will have to come back either for further investigation or the trial, and that’s what he wants to do,” he said (via SMN News).

“And he wants to return because he believes he is not guilty of anything he has been charged with,” he later added.

We’ll keep you posted on what happens. At this point, it’s easy to see this entire fiasco fading from an actual accusation to someone being made an example of, but for better or worse, things are about to start happening.

If you’re confused by what’s going on, we tried our best to outline it here.
