The White Stripes myth continues to grow following their break-up in February 2011, and now it looks like their story’s finally going to have a defined start point for fans with word that recordings from the band’s first ever show are about to be released as part of Jack White’s Third Man Records Vault series.

The Live at the Gold Dollar 7″ collects recordings from the duo’s first performance at a Detroit bar on July 13, 1997, where they took the stage on an open mic night to play a few songs, including “Jimmy the Exploder” and “St. James Infirmary Blues,” both of which appeared on the band’s 1999 self-titled debut.

Pitchfork reports that there’s also going to be a 12″ release, also titled Live at the Gold Dollar, which pools together songs from their first full concert that took place exactly one month later at the same establishment.

If you’re interested in the package, which also comes with a tote bag, be sure to sign up to the Vault before the end of the month.
