Last night, Usher performed in London at the Hammersmith Apollo as part of the American Express Unstaged concert series. Last night, Usher performed in London at the Hammersmith Apollo as part of the American Express Unstaged concert series, which has previously featured performances by Mary J. Blige, Coldplay, Jack White and more. The performances are streamed live via VEVO, then hosted on the channel in full for 48 hours. After 48 hours, a selection of 10 songs from the performance will remain on VEVO indefinitely.

Usher’s performance featured a live band, an incredible group of backup dancers, a shockingly elaborate lighting display, and even live pyrotechnics. The highlight of the performance, however, was the interactive component, engineered by Montreal’s Moment Factory. As we reported previously, Usher’s AMEX Unstaged performance would use crowd-sourced avatars as digital backup dancers. Essentially, people watching the live-stream of the concert from home were able to choose an avatar, tweak its colour scheme, and pick from a list of pre-set dance moves. During the concert, these avatars were to be displayed on stage as backup dancers for Usher.

You can watch the full stream of the concert below for 48 hours, or jump to 1:28 for Usher’s performance of “Scream,” during which the digital backup dancers have their moment to shine.

Speaking of shine, another takeaway from this concert is that Usher sweats like a beast. Why isn’t it sexy when I sweat that much?
