Visually speaking The Mars Volta’s new video is a surprisingly straight-forward affair, but there’s likely a reason for that. Originally, the band ran a contest asking fans to make their own video for Noctourniquet‘s lead single, “The Malkin Jewel,” but what ended up winning was a weirdly erotic video consisting of some shirtless teenagers rolling around.

Maybe that’s why the band has gone and released an official clip for the song edited by their own Omar Rodriguez-Lopez. Or maybe not. Either way, get comfy before you watch: since this is a live rendition, the band’s gone their usual route and extended the five minute track by 150%. Yes, it’s fifteen minutes long now and no, we don’t know why but yes, this is credited as the song’s official video.
