Every gratuitous, drawn-out, Hollywood head-patting awards show needs a musical soundtrack, and last night that duty was bestowed upon house DJ Martin Solveig, fun. (assisted by Janelle Monae), Wiz Khalifa, and the Black Keys. Also, Johnny Depp was there. Wait, what?!

Last night, the MTV Movie Awards treated audiences to as much glitz and glamour that an awards show with a category for “Best On Screen Dirt Bag” can deliver.

Every gratuitous, drawn-out, Hollywood head-patting awards show needs a musical soundtrack, and last night that duty was bestowed upon house DJ Martin Solveig, fun. (assisted by Janelle Monae), Wiz Khalifa, and the Black Keys, who for some reason performed alongside a guitar-toting Johnny Depp.

fun. feat. Janelle Monae, “We Are Young”

Opening the show, fun.’s singer Nate Ruess traipsed around the stage, showing the world that a) yes, can sing quite well live, and b) he has a gigantic mouth.

Wiz Khalifa, “Work Hard, Play Hard”

Later in the show, Wiz Khalifa performed his new single “Work Hard, Play Hard,” a song where he raps “I’ve got so much money I should start a bank.” Sign up for a chequing account at the Bank of Wiz, where the debit cards are made out of weed!

The Black Keys feat. Johnny Depp, “Gold On The Ceiling”

This has to be the weirdest, most indulgent, ass-kissy moment in an incredibly indulgent, ass-kissy awards show. MTV gives Johnny Depp a completely made up award (the “MTV Generation Award”) and then he gets to fiddle around on stage with the Black Keys, while we’re supposed to sit there, smiling politely as if it’s our niece’s ballet recital or something.

Oh, and in case you’re curious, the award for “Best On Screen Dirt Bag” went to Jennifer Aniston, for her perverted dentist character in Horrible Bosses.
