In a revelation that should shock absolutely nobody, Erykah Badu has come out and called Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne self serving after he released an unapproved, unedited version of their video for “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face,” which you might recall us reporting on for its portrayal of Badu nude and covered in fake blood and synthetic semen.

According to a lengthy rant on Twitter service TwitLonger, Badu says she would never have approved the video as is, calling it tasteless and meaningless.

“You showed me a concept of beautiful tasteful imagery( by way of vid text messages). I trusted that. I was mistaken,” she writes. “Then u release an unedited, unapproved version within the next few days. That all spells 1 thing , Self Serving .”

She goes onto accuse Coyne of breaching their contract together when he released raw images and video from the shoot in Twitter and says that while she found the concept for the video “disturbing,” she respected the artist Coyne “appeared to be.”

It’s a pretty scathing retort directed at a band that’s obviously moved beyond music into a sort of public sideshow, especially when she reveals that the video’s concept was meaningless.

“When asked what the concept meant after u explained it , u replied ,”it doesn’t mean anything , I just want to make a great video that everyone is going to watch. ”

Yikes. Coyne hasn’t responded directly to the rant so much as he’s tried to play it off, tweeting that he takes full responsibility for the video’s early release.
