After two full months at the chart’s summit, Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know” (feat. Kimbra) has finally been dethroned by Carly Rae Jepsen. In its 16th week on the charts, “Call Me Maybe,” a song that is by all accounts IMPOSSIBLE to hate, assumed its rightful place atop the Hot 100. It just feels right, doesn’t it?

After two full months at the chart’s summit, Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know” (feat. Kimbra) has finally been dethroned by Carly Rae Jepsen. In its 16th week on the charts, “Call Me Maybe,” a song that is by all accounts IMPOSSIBLE to hate, assumed its rightful place atop the Hot 100. It just feels right, doesn’t it?

Carly Rae Jepsen is the first female artist to have a debut single rise to #1 since Ke$ha did it with “Tik Tok” in 2010. Before that, it was Lady Gaga with “Just Dance” in 2009.

Jepsen owes much of her success to the social media co-sign from Justin Bieber, which eventually led to her signing with Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun.

Here’s a mind-melting factoid for you: Justin Bieber has had 21 songs chart on the Billboard Hot 100, but he has never had a song go #1. His highest chart performance was in April of 2012 when “Boyfriend” peaked at #2.

There’s no #1 hit in Justin’s near future either — “Boyfriend” sits at #10 in its 11th week on the charts, and his new single “All Around The World” featuring Ludacris entered the charts at #22 this week. Is it possible that Scooter has a new favourite client?
