This Sunday, Lady Gaga joined the likes of Tony Bennett, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, *NSYNC, and the Baha Men through being immortalized on The Simpsons. She even performs a song specially written for this episode called “You Are All My Little Monsters.” To celebrate the long-standing tradition of celebrity cameos on The Simpsons, here are a few of our other favourites.

This Sunday, Lady Gaga joined the likes of Tony Bennett, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, *NSYNC, and the Baha Men through being immortalized on The Simpsons. The season finale of Season 23 (!!!), titled “Lisa Goes Gaga,” saw eccentric pop star Lady Gaga help Lisa raise her spirits after she is chosen as Springfield Elementary’s least popular student. During her cameo, Lady Gaga even performs a song specially written for this episode called “You Are All My Little Monsters”:

“When they’re young, all little monsters learn that they are scary
Ugly, stupid, shunned by cupid, overweight and hairy

But every monster needs to find that secret deep inside
That transforms doctor Jeckyll into sexy Mr. Hyde

All my monsters are beautiful
Disco Stu-tiful
Square Root-iful
Old Coot-iful

Monsters don’t need implants or a bitchin’ monster car
Monsters only need to love the monster’s that they are

Oh yeah. Gaga, Dada, Jawa, Peace!”

I initially had my doubts when I heard that there was going to be a new-era Gaga-centric episode this season, but any Simpsons musical performance that manages to work in “Disco Stu-tiful” as a lyric, I’m pretty sure is a work tantamount to the best cuts off of Songs In The Key Of Springfield. If not, it’s at least as good as “Deep Deep Trouble,” from the inexplicable compilation record The Simpsons Sing The Blues.

Musician cameos are a long-standing tradition on The Simpsons, and when you gawk at the Wikipedia page for a while, it really drives home how much The Simpsons is a document of celebrity culture over the past 23 seasons.

In no particular order, here are some of our favourite musician cameos from The Simpsons:

Tony Bennett “Dancin’ Homer (Capital City)”

Tony Bennet sings about the place that makes a bum feel like a king.

Michael Jackson as Leon Kompowsky

Michael Jackson flexes his acting chops as a bricklayer from New Jersey.

Sting “We’re Sending Our Love Down The Well”

Krusty produced a star-studded benefit song, with appearances from massive celebrities like Sting, Major Joe Quimby, Ranier Wolfcastle, and even Princess Kashmir.

Linda Ronstadt “Plow King/Señor Plow”

“So I says, ‘kiss MY asphalt!'”

Barry White “Can’t Get Enough Of Your Love, Baby (Whacking Day Remix)”

When Barry White says “Anything…for a lady,” it’s chemically impossible not to swoon.

The Ramones “Happy Birthday”

This is immediately prior to Mr. Burns ordering Smithers to have the Rolling Stones killed.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers “Give It Away (Krusty Lyrical Edit)”

Flea submits to Krusty’s lyrical writing prowess: “Wow, that’s much better!”

Robert Goulet “Jingle Bells, Batman Smells”

One night only, in Bart’s treehouse, watch Robert Goulet bonk Milhouse in the head with a microphone.

Johnny Cash as the Coyote in “The Mysterious Voyage of Homer”

Probably the most badass chili-induced hallucination of all time.

Hank Williams Jr. “Canyonero!”

Can you name the truck with the four wheel drive, smells like steak, and seats thirty five?

The B-52s “Glove Slap”

Glove slap, shut your big yap!

Shawn Colvin (as Rachel Jordan from Kovenant) “He’s The Man”

She’s no Maude…

*NSYNC “Untitled (Worrrrd)”

And *NSYNC are no Party Posse. YVAN EHT NIOJ!

David Byrne “Everyone Hates Ned Flanders”

David Byrne recognizes the genius in Homer’s tuneful grievances towards Ned Flanders, and offers to produce it.

Fantasia Barrino (as Clarissa Wellington) “Hush Little Baby”

Fantasia upstages Lisa’s version of “Hush Little Baby” with vocal heroics in the Lil Starmaker singing competition.

Ludacris as Luda-Crest

Luda-Crest is the enemy of the cavity in the short film “Menace Tooth Society.”
