J Dilla remains a hip-hop icon years after his death, but in Detroit his cultural status his near mythical proportions, so the prospect of a new album (Rebirth of Detroit) with MCs rapping over previously unheard instrumentals can be a daunting one. Luckily Danny Brown has the confidence to make it work, and as a motor city native, it’s a collaboration we wish we could have had more of.
