Easter/Passover Weekend was a busy one for those loveable hip-hop scamps in Young Money / Cash Money, given that they decided to roll out three brand new videos from two of their biggest artists over the weekend. And so, the Easter YMCMBunny crept through our internet, and hid some Vimeo and YouTube eggs for us that we're only able to crack open now, because we've been busy either fasting, or fasting all weekend.

Easter/Passover Weekend was a busy one for those loveable hip-hop scamps in Young Money Cash Money, given that they decided to roll out three brand new videos from two of their biggest artists over the weekend.

And so, the Easter YMCMBunny crept through our internet, and hid some Vimeo and YouTube eggs for us that we’re only able to crack open now, because we’ve been busy either fasting, or fasting all weekend.

Nicki Minaj – Beez In The Trap

Veteran music video director Benny Boom (who once served as somewhat of a protege to hip-hop video legends Hype Williams and Little X) directed this first clip, portraying Nicki Minaj hanging out in a tittie bar with Tity Boi, a.k.a. 2 Chainz. Nicki’s deafult pose seems to be crouching behind a wall of barbed wire, which is confusing, but not altogether unsatisfying visually. With plenty of big butts, and no fewer than 3 wigs, Nicki’s alter-ego Roman Zolanski looks right at home in the strip club. It’s not groundbreaking by any stretch, but it’s enough to hold us over for when the “Starships” (shot in Hawaii) video drops this week.

Drake dropped two very different videos of his own this weekend, exhibiting the presence of his self-aware partied-out rapper persona, and the contrasting emotional existential crises R&B singer character, a subtle variance that exists on Take Care.

Drake – HYFR feat. Lil Wayne

Directed by Little X, the video for “HYFR” gives Drake a rare chance to show his comedic side, and the Passover release date suddenly makes a lot of sense. Depicting Drake’s “re-bar mitzvah” as a re-commitment to Judaism, the video puts the often-serious rapper in a context where he’s having fun with Judaic traditions in the company of friends, family, and out-of-place associates like Birdman and DJ Khaled.

Drake – Take Care feat. Rihanna

French director Yoanne Lemoine (Katy Perry “Teenage Dream,” Lana Del Rey “Born to Die”) is responsible for this artful video for Drake’s vulnerable title track. Gorgeous slow-motion shots of wildlife (birds, buffalo) are juxtaposed with Drake and Rihanna locked in a close embrace to great emotional effect. It’s a stunning video that does well in capturing the aesthetic that Drake and 40 worked towards on Take Care — artistic but self-aware, and ultimately honest and exposed.
