The Images Festival announced today that its Closing Night Gala will feature the Canadian premiere of Sounds of Silence with a live, original soundtrack by indie rockers Yo La Tengo.

Sounds of Silence is a collection of films from Jean Painlevé, who in the early 20th century became fascinated with life below sea level.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 21st at the Toronto Underground Cinema. Tickets are available now.

This won’t be Yo La Tengo’s first foray into the films of Painlevé, as the New Jersey band was commissioned in similar circumstances back in 2001 by the San Francisco Film Festival. Head to the Image Festival’s website for more info.
