The-Dream seems intent on protecting his atmospheric R&B crooner territory, because he took aim at the Weekend while performing Monday night in New York on his Kill The Lights tour. The-Dream a.k.a. Terius Nash said "I haven't done a show in close to 2 years, and ever since then, there's like 4 niggas that sound like me now." This is only compounding an existing perceived "beef," given that Terius Nash released a song on recent mixtape 1977 that seems to call out new school R&B singers like The Weeknd and Frank Ocean.

“See I created this sound, yes sir I shut it down / There’s only one number one, these other niggas are my sons”

It didn’t take The Weeknd long to respond. He lashed out on Twitter just several hours later.

The-Dream has been rattling off Tweets on the subject ever since the incident. Some highlights include:

So it looks like after some tweeting/thinking out loud, The-Dream wants to bury the hatchet and move forward. Will The Weeknd respond? The way I see it, The-Dream didn’t name him specifically, and he actually said that there were 4 artists that sound like him out there right now.

I think there’s room enough for two artful R&B singers out there. We have the artful R&B vocalist who sings about drugs, and we have the artful R&B vocalist who sings about sex. If we need to make this distinction so that one doesn’t encroach on the other’s territory, then so be it.
