Why My Head Hurts: Ah, our friends from The Key of Awesome are back, further cementing their monopoly on Internet music video parodies. They go with the first angle you probably would have thought of, were you one of the privileged few who get to live off of YouTube ad revenue – instead of a hopeless place, it’s a homeless place! “Rihanna” and “Other Guy” spoof the constant public sexploits of the original vid by doing it on the street, a skate ramp, a bum and prett’near everywhere else. It’s obvious, but they know their audience is not-particularly-discriminating teenagers and clearly have no interest in challenging them. It is what it is.

Definitive Lyric: “We make love in a homeless man’s face (“I asked for change, not a threesome!”)”

Live Music Alert: The Key of Awesome is playing live in Toronto on April 1st with other YouTube luminaries! I’ll go out on a limb and guess that it’s all ages. 13-year-olds: remember to ask your parents’ permission. 14-year-olds: you’re old enough to start making decisions for yourselves.

“We Found Love (Kardashian Boycott)”

Why My Head Hurts: YouTuber VenetianPrincess provides this mild parody themed around the Kardashians, complete with dollar signs flying out of a fake booty, that shockingly posits that Kim’s marriage to basketballer Kris Humphries may have been a publicity stunt! She goes on to joke that – whoa, nope. That’s it. The video is 57 seconds long, with an extra minute of asking her subscribers to like her on Facebook. C’mon, girl, content is king. On her motivation to make the parody, VenetianPrincess explains that “I wanted to dress up like Kim Kardashian”. Satire is alive and well in 2012!

Why My Head Hurts: “Hawkboy” was not the only Tuber to come up with this angle. There was her, and this guy, and these girls, and these guys, and this guy, and also this person. And them and her and them. But he was the worst, so he gets the nod. You might think that using four incredibly long shots spread over three minutes and fifty seconds might result in a boring video. And you would of course be right, because it is. Maybe I’m just dense and Hawkboy will turn out to be the Scorsese of YouTube.

“We Found Bugs”

Why My Head Hurts: The visual component of “We Found Bugs” consists almost entirely of stolen Google images and foreign TV commercials. Yep. As such, this video is not so good. But at least one helpful commenter left the uploader an idea for a better parody:

“I Wear A Glove (When I Masterbait)”

Why My Head Hurts: Is my nose running? Nope, that’s blood. That’s… blood. Morally reprehensible YouTuber Bart Baker specializes in finding old men and paying them to put on make-up and a wig and sing foul versions of pop hits. Thus, “I Wear A Glove (When I Masterbait)” was born. It’d be brilliant if it weren’t so stupid. This video’s greatest crime – and it commits many, including taking advantage of the elderly and spelling “masturbate” incorrectly – is that it never adequately answers why he wears a glove when he masturbates! And for that, it has earned its goose egg. Hate you hard, Bart Baker.
