The heavy metal community still hasn’t recovered from the untimely death of legendary frontman Ronnie James Dio, and since he tragically succumbed to stomach cancer in 2010 there’s been an outpouring of tributes, the latest of which is a statue of the legendary singer in…Bulgaria.

According to Bulgarian media, Dio was an active supporter of the country. Not only was he one of the first of his ilk to play in Kavarna, the city where the statue was erected, but he was also a vocal supporter of of the campaign to liberate imprisoned Bulgarian nurses that were held in Libya.

The city’s mayor Tzonko Tzonev reportedly had a huge hand in making the statue happen. Sculpted by Alexander Petrov and Krasimir Krastev-Lomsky, the statue of the far from statuesque New Hampshire native reportedly stands at six-and-a-half feet tall and was funded entirely through donations.

Above you’ll find a photo of the finished product, but there’s also a new video floating around which perhaps better shows its detail. Watch that here. [via Blabbermouth]
