That headline isn’t a euphemism, by the way. One Direction singer Niall Horan was apparently attacked by a pigeon as a kid—what’s worse, it apparently happened while he was in the shitter—and he’s been terrified ever since. How scared? Scared enough that the Sun reported earlier today that the British boy band has apparently had to hire extra security staff to keep the flying rats away at outdoor venues.

And you thought Kings of Leon hated birds.

“Niall’s really scared of pigeons,” says One Direction’s Harry Styles. “We have to protect him.”

“I get really nervous if pigeons are flying around before shows,” says Horan. “I can’t stand them after one once flew in through my bathroom window and went for me while I was having a wee,” he adds. “That was enough. I think pigeons target me.”
