A group of 11 people in the UK scammed iTunes and Amazon to make themselves a pile of music royalties by uploading their own, unknown music, then using stolen credit card information to purchase it.

Between January 2008 and June 2009, the 11 scammers made themselves about £500,000 (which is almost $800,000 Canadian). iTunes investigated after realising “they were paying royalties to what appeared to be utterly unknown artists in the Wolverhampton area at a rate they expect to pay to someone like Madonna,” according to BBC News.

Six of the involved are now in jail/detention centres, while the rest received sentences without jail time.
