As good as The Gift of Gab’s solo career has been, fans have been chomping at the bit for a new Blackalicious album since 2005’s The Craft, and after a bit of a health scare, Gab says the duo’s next album is finally in progress.

In a statement released mostly to address his recent bout with kidney failure, Gab says rather succinctly that, “[i]n addition to [his] own album, Blackalicious is working on our next full length album,” referring to The Next Logical Progression, his newest solo album which hits stores on March 27th.

More importantly, though, is that he’s finally on his way to good health, with a kidney donor lined up for an upcoming transplant.

“I’m here to publicly address my health to all my fans. About seven weeks ago I went into kidney failure,” reads the statement. “I hadn’t eaten in days, checked in to a hospital, and was diagnosed. I started dialysis five weeks ago. If I can leave you with a message to take away from this, it’s to take care of yourself and do not take your health for granted. We think we’re invincible but we’re all human and our actions catch up to us.”
