Songwriter and Producer Dr. Luke (a.k.a. Lukasz Gottwald) launched his musical career playing guitar in the Saturday Night Live band for 10 years, from 1997-2007. I’m sure he amassed a pretty star-studded rolodex during that gig, because before left the SNL Band, he had already written and produced songs for Kelly Clarkson, Mos Def, The Backstreet Boys, and P!nk.

Dr. Luke has over 20 Top 40 hits to his credit, and he runs a publishing company that employs 17 songwriters, including Ke$ha, Katy Perry, and his protege Benny Blanco. His production style is based on clean, tight, catchy pop songs, blending electronic and organic instrumentation. His productions from 2010 (“California Gurls,” “Tik Tok”) defined the way pop music sounds right now, and he’s still one of the most prominent pop music songwriters working today.
