Who: Reversing Falls
From: Montreal

AUX: You’ve never been to Toronto, what are you most eager to do here?

Tyler Crawford, vocals/guitar: There are a lot of friends I’m really looking forward to seeing. Three things I would like to do during my extended stay are find and eat an extremely high quality eggs benedict, stay up all night wandering the streets, and meet Drake. Ideally all in one night and in that specific order.

Is there anything you’re looking forward to seeing or adamant about avoiding at CMW?

Aside from the two shows we’re playing, the only show I have scheduled is Parlovr on March 23. I’ve heard their songs hundreds of times since I engineered their forthcoming LP with producer Martin Horn, and I still love them. Good songs, good guys, great haircuts. In terms of things I’d like to avoid, the big one is getting overloaded on music. My walnut-sized brain can only handle so much input.

What’s the best and worst thing about a festival like CMW? Does it compare to others you’ve played or attended?

I actually forgot that it was a festival until I received this interview request. I’ve just been thinking of it as “two shows in Toronto”, “vacation”, and maybe “Canadian Bender Week”. We’ve played a few other fests that were fun, but I’m partial to Pop Montreal because A) that festival happens close to my house and B) they’ve been supportive of our band for a long time.

What’s your favourite Toronto band and why?

This one is easy: Topanga [ed note: hey us too!]. These guys have a laser-tight live show, tons of great hooks, memorable songs, and, to top it all off, they are some of the funniest, kindest dudes I’ve met in a long time. We played a show with them about a year ago and their enthusiasm got me excited about music again. They are the kind of band who will show up at your house with 30 beers and a set of dice and win all your toonies. That speaks volumes about what I’m trying to get at.

Tell us why your show is the show everyone should make sure to see.

Top 5 reasons to see the musical band group Reversing Falls at CMW:
5) Our setlist has been trimmed to “Hits Only”
4) This setlist includes a cover of Hole’s “Malibu”
3) We have a song called “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things”
2) For our CMW shows, we’ve added a drummer who plays along to our drum machine and he is Jamie Thompson, formerly of The Unicorns / Islands
1) With all due respect, see reason #2

What else is Reversing Falls up to that we should know about?

We’re going to be releasing the next single from our upcoming LP in the next few months as well as a non album B-side along with it. We have a few videos in the works and are putting the finishing touches on our LP with producer Mark Lawson (Arcade Fire, Timber Timbre). I’m really excited for people to hear it, there are songs we’ve never played live on there as well as some altered arrangements of songs that are staples of our live show. Don’t have an exact release date, but it’s getting very close.

Reversing Falls play the Silver Dollar tonight at 8 p.m., and the Drake on Saturday at 12 a.m.
