Usually when a band is finishing their album and frustrations hit a high, they step aside for a bit. Not the Walkmen, who at the height of the recording process decided to blow off some steam with a spontaneous U2 medley.

Featuring bits of “Pride (In the Name of Love)”, “With or Without You”, and “Sunday Bloody Sunday,” the band writes that producer Phil Elk recorded the medley “on the sly.” Asking for forgiveness, they also note that they forgot they’d done the medley until Elk “sat down and patiently mixed it.”

Unfortunately we can’t embed the medley, so you’ll have to head to the band’s blog (or Facebook) page to check it out.

As for that new album, it doesn’t have a title yet, but it’s expected out this summer through Fat Possum.
