Back in January, CBC announced that due to new projects and budgetary constraints, their regional music archives across the country were being dismantled and digitized. Even though some of the CDs and LPs would be kept and make their way to Toronto’s main archive, the future of much of the collection was uncertain; some would be donated or sold, but it looked like most were headed for the trash.

Today, Calgary record store Inner Sleeve announced that they had purchased the entire collection from CBC Calgary—that’s some 27,000 LPs and 35,000 CDs.

“We are super excited to announce that we purchased the entire Calgary CBC library…approximately 27,000 LPs and 35,000 CDs!!!” reads a post on the store’s Facebook page. “We want you to know that CBC will be distributing the proceeds from this purchase between two organizations that they support. We are still packing up this awesome collection and will be releasing more details in the weeks to come so stay tuned :)”

Congratulations to Calgary! Now, what about the rest of the country? [via Exclaim!]
