In order to survive on a major label in a world where people no longer buy CDs, pop stars need to make themselves very accessible to this major demographic on Twitter, Facebook, and other social media. It's a direct line where you can feed the impressionable youth iTunes links, merch stores, and concert dates. Some of the most commercially successful artists take this direct contact a step further, and foster a sort of perceived "membership" of sorts. You're no longer a fan -- you're part of a team.

Tweet it. Print it off and send it to your Grandma. DO MY BIDDING. No? Okay, cool. Just thought I’d try.
