Luscious Jackson were the first band on the Beastie Boys’ now-shuttered Grand Royal label in the early 90s, and through the rest of that decade they had some hits with songs on the Clueless soundtrack and their 1996 album Fever in Fever Out. They disbanded in 2000 to start and spend time with their families, but last year they quietly reunited to work on new music.

“Are You Ready?” is the first song from the upcoming project, which is being funded through a Kickstarter-esque program called PledgeMusic. “It’s nice to have no big, huge labels pressures and all that stuff,” singer/bassist Jill Cunniff’s told Rolling Stone. “It’s something that we see as a cottage industry, that we can build. We’re going to finish this album – and try to finish it in six months – and then figure out when we can do some concerts. It’s not going to be everything we used to do, but we’re going to see what we can do.”

The song sounds like classic Luscious Jackson, which, maybe even by definition, sounds a little dated, but we look forward to see what else they come up with. Check out the song over at Rolling Stone.
