Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon has gotten a lot of attention not only as an emotive bearded wonder-singer but as a producer and collaborator over the past few years, starting with his work on Kanye’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and most recently on Kathleen Edwards’ Voyageur. He’s busy with other collaborations, having just done a song with Flaming Lips, and he’s stated in a recent interview that he’s worked on some songs with Alicia Keys.

In an interview with USA Today, he also mentions that some of the collaborative work he’s doing has inspired a bigger project. “I have a big idea to do an American songbook of the greatest women singers. There are so many: Casey (Dienel) from White Hinterland, Bonnie Raitt, Alicia.”

Bon Iver will play Saturday Night Live this weekend, and Spin reports that one of their selections will be “Beth/Rest.”
