Long-running Brooklyn trio Nada Surf released their seventh studio album last Tuesday, and today they’re premiering the video for first single “When I Was Young.”
Filmed and directed by Phil Harder New York City, the band’s hometown, the video is about singer Matthew Caws’ childhood.
“Because it’s is about my childhood, I thought a video about a kid growing up in New York would be great,” Caws says in a statement. “The only suggestions that went out to Phil were a kid growing up in NY and The Royal Tennenbaums. But he really got it right and more, suggesting and nailing things about childhood that I would not have been able to express. Otto is extraordinary in it. That he instills fun, makes it all the more poignant.”
