St. Vincent was the musical guest on Conan O’Brien last night, and before playing her song “Cheerleader,” she paid homage to another pop great.
The band first launched into Elvis Costello’s hit “Radio Radio,” stopping after a few bars, with Annie Clark coming to the mic and saying “I’m sorry ladies and gentlemen, there’s no reason to play that song.” It was a nod to Costello’s infamous Saturday Night Live appearance in 1977, when he, at the request of label Columbia Records, started his performance playing “Less Than Zero,” before stopping, saying what Annie said last night, then launched into the song he really wanted to play, “Radio Radio.”
So, did you think you could love St. Vincent anymore? And did this prove you wrong? Us too. Watch the video above.
