When the Darcys announced that they’d signed to Arts & Crafts, a promise of three albums came with it. Naturally, we expected a pretty quick turn around. What we didn’t expect was a Steely Dan cover album, which is exactly what’s next for the Toronto quartet.

As the title implies, Aja is a reworking of Steely Dan’s 1977 album of the same name. According to a post on the Arts & Craft blog, the album was recorded during the sessions for the band’s self-titled sophomore release.

“We did it because we could and because we thought we couldn’t,” explains drummer Wes Marskell. “It became as much an art project as an album.”

Like their Arts & Craft debut, Aja will be released as a free download on the band’s website with a physical release to follow. It’ll be out on January 24th. Listen to the band’s cover of “Josie” below.
