Toronto’s Diamond Rings has been in Montreal working on a new album with producer Damian Taylor (Bjork, The Killers, Austra), and as they wrap up and do some “final tweaks,” Taylor gave some insight on what we can expect to hear.

“[We’re] trying to find a middle ground that shows the rawness of how he does it, but make it big enough to compete,” Taylor says. “We’re doing a huge amount of work with especially his vocal arrangements. We’ve got these really quite intricate vocal arrangements, sometimes there’s like 28 tracks of harmonies. It’s got this raw, slightly cheeky fun vibe.”

Diamond Rings, aka John O’Regan, gave a little more insight into that vocal direction in a tweet, saying “OMG the vocals on my newest song sound just like THIS!” and linking to Bruce Cockburn’s “Lovers In A Dangerous Time.” We hope this is 100% true.

You can watch the full interview above, where Taylor also shares a bit about the new Killers album he’s also working on. [via Diamond Rings]
