Patti Smith's new album will include a tribute to Amy Winehouse

It’s been almost eight years since Patti Smith released an album of original material (2004’s Trampin’), but she’s at work on a new one (!!), and according to a new interview with Uncut, it will feature a song Smith wrote as tribute to the late Amy Winehouse.
“The little song for Amy just blossomed in the studio,” Smith says. “We were at Electric Lady [studio] doing a whole other song and I wrote Amy a little poem when she died and my bass player, Tony Shanahan, wrote a piece of music and the two matched perfectly.”
There’s no release date for the album yet, but rest assured we’ll let you know as soon as there is. [via Clash Music]
