What’s long been rumoured and hinted at has been made official: the Beach Boys will reunite for their 50th anniversary in 2012, complete with a 50-date tour and, most strangely and excitingly, a new studio album.

They’re calling it the “global 50th Anniversary CELEBRATION in 2012,” and along with the tour and new album, some commemorative catalogue releases, a new hits collection, and a bix set will be released as well.

“This anniversary is special to me because I miss the boys and it will be a thrill for me to make a new record and be on stage with them again,” Brian Wilson states in a press release.

The tour dates have yet to be finalized, but it begins on April 27th at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.

Watch a clip of the band recording “Do It Again” for the new album in the studio together this year below.
