In 1992, the Make-A-Wish Foundation made it possible for Josh Hardy to fly to Seattle and meet Pearl Jam, his idols. As a treat for Hardy, who was suffering from a terminal brain tumour, the band autographed guitarist Mike McCready’s 1972 Fender Telecaster.

The guitar was kept at Josh’s brother Ben’s house for nearly twenty years until it was stolen last week, but the Burlington Free Press reports today that its been recovered. Unfortunately, the signatures were sanded off by the guitar’s two thieves, Jeffrey Leduc and Timothy Crews.

“It’s an amazing ending to quite the ordeal,” wrote Ben Hardy on Facebook. “There is no question that all the positivity and hope generated through this network played a big role in the guitar’s return.”
