UPDATE: Exclaim! has the lowdown on the Canadian tour dates. Check them out here.
We mentioned a couple of weeks ago that Weakerthans frontman John K. Samson was getting set to release his debut full-length album Provincial in January, and today we get a listen to a new song. You can listen to “When I Write My Master’s Thesis” over at Paste.
It’s reminiscent of some of the Weakerthans’ more upbeat stuff, plied with lots of downstrum electric chords and a big ol’ chorus. It’s a nice harkening to a day that seems sometimes too long gone.
Weakerthans drummer Jason Tait tweeted over the weekend that the band wouldn’t be playing anymore shows for a while, as Samson gears up to take his solo work on the road. So far there’s only one Canadian date (March 22 at the Great Hall), but more will be announced soon. [via Paste]
