A month ago, Gwar guitarist Cory Smoot, aka Flattus Maximus, was found dead by his bandmates as they prepared to cross the border into Canada on their current tour. Now, the cause of his sudden death has been revealed in an official statement from the band:

We have finalized the autopsy report and death certificate. I have determined that Cory died from a coronary artery thrombosis brought about by his pre-existing coronary artery disease.”

Smoot’s heart disease caused a clot to form in the narrowed blood vessels that supply blood and oxygen to the heart.

Gwar are currently continuing as a four-piece to finish their European tour, and are officially retiring the character Flattus Maximus.
