When Sonic Youth‘s Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore announced the end of their 27-year marriage last month, many also rquestioned the future of the band.

In a new interview with Rolling Stone, guitarist Lee Ranaldo does say there aren’t any more shows or new music planned at the moment, it isn’t necessarily a reason to feel bad.

“[Those were] certainly the last shows for a while and I guess I’d just leave it at that,” he says. “I’m feeling optimistic about the future no matter what happens at this point. I mean, every band runs its course. We’ve been together way longer than any of us ever imagined would happen and it’s been for the most part an incredibly pleasurable ride. There’s still a lot of stuff we’re going to continue to do. There’s tons and tons of archival projects and things like that that are still going on, so there are so many ways in which we are tied to each other for the future both musically and in other ways.”

Ranaldo himself, though he’s released some experimental instrumental albums, is getting set to release his first proper solo album, Between the Times, next March. You can read the full interview over at Rolling Stone.
