For the second time in three months Coheed & Cambria have lost a member of their rhythm section, announcing last night that they’ve parted ways mega-drummer Chris Pennie.

Pennie, who is still perhaps best known as the original drummer and co-founder of tech-metal behemoths Dillinger Escape Plan, had been with the band since 2007 , appearing on only one album, 2010’s Year of the Black Rainbow.

In a statement released yesterday, Pennie revealed his reasons for leaving.

“I am very thankful for the years that I shared the stage with the guys and want to thank the amazing, supportive fans that I’ve met while on tour, but there are a lot of exciting projects on the horizon, in addition to Return To Earth and Fight Mannequins, that I feel require my absolute 100 percent commitment and attention. I feel that this is the right time to make that happen.”

For their part, Coheed and Cambria, which is now a two piece, released a statement extending their deepest appreciation to Pennie for “an incredible journey”.

Coheed’s former bassist, Michael Todd, was kicked out of the band in August after was arrested for armed robbery.
