AUX’s BEST BETS:
Wednesday, October 19

How was your first night at Halifax Pop Explosion? Bet it didn’t feel like a Tuesday, hey? What a treat. More treats tonight! Come high five us at these shows (and more).

Rich Aucoin
This is our Halifax pick of the day. Two of the very best shows I saw last year at HPX (Old Man Luedecke, Handsome Furs) were at this venue and one of the very best shows I saw in Toronto this year was Rich Aucoin, sooo do you see what I’m getting at here? Halifax’s golden boy is throwing a release party for his sky-highly anticipated full-length album, and you can bet it’ll be rammed with guests and the best show of the night. Sorry, everyone else! You all rule too. But do you have a parachute? Or the light inside of you that Rich Aucoin does? It’s possible that none of us do.
(St. Matthew’s United Church, 8 p.m.)

CKDU
Okay, this is kind of cheating, but let’s just get this out of the way now because starting today, CKDU is hosting their usual awesome afternoon shows in their station lobby. Today they’ve got the Weekend Dads and the Cold Warps, and what you will have is a feeling of community and some warmth and maybe a hint of the smell of B.O. because it does get warm and it does get packed in there. But that’s okay! The CKDU lobby shows proved a constant highlight last year. Keep your eye on ‘em.
(CKDU lobby, 5:30 and 6:15 p.m.)

Thee Oh Sees
Have you ever seen Thee Oh Sees? Either way, no excuse not to make it here tonight.
(Reflections Cabaret, 1 a.m.)
Born Gold
Don’t be fooled! This is Gobble Gobble, from Edmonton! They’ve changed their name but they’re still electro-spaz-freaks and they will blow your brain apart but it won’t come out of your head. Transforming their latest LP Bodysongs into a three-dimensional dance epiphany, Born Gold should ensure anti-apathy. Though that generally doesn’t seem to be a problem here this time of year.
(Gus’ Pub, 11 p.m.)
