One of the top reggae albums of all time, Bob Marley and the Wailers’ classic 1973 album Catch a Fire put the reggae superstars on the map. It was the band’s major label debut after being stars in their native Jamaica, released at a time when the divide between rock and reggae meant reggae needed to be ‘Americanized’ in order to break through in the States.

Featuring vintage interviews with Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, founder of Island Jam records Chris Blackwell and many more, as well as early live performances and rare home recordings, this episode of Classic Albums will bring you back to a better time of reggae’s history, when social justice, spiritualism and confrontational subjects sung in Marley’s iconic voice rounded out the jams, and the single “Stir it Up,” the Wailers’ first successful song outside of Jamaica, was the sensuously sweet soundtrack of lovers everywhere.
