Since we’ll be kicking around Pop Montreal this week, we’re talking to some of our favourite bands playing the festival.

Meet Yuck.

After releasing one of the year’s most talked about albums, Yuck used the momentum of their self-titled debut to prove that their interpretation of ‘90s alt-rock was more than an attempt to earn blog buzz. Now making their way through North America (yet again), the London-based four (sometimes five)-piece are slowly conquering the continent. Or at least helping us justify watching Singles repeatedly.

You can catch them at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday at Cabaret Mile End (5240 Parc).

AUX: What about Pop Montreal (or Montreal in general) are you most excited about?

Yuck: It seems like a pretty cool festival with a lot of good bands playing. I haven’t really been to Montreal much, but we had a good time supporting Tame Impala here the last time, so I’m looking forward to being back. There’s also something called ‘poutine’ which I want to try. It sounds like a hilariously unhealthy midnight snack.

What bands are you determined to see during the festival?

Y: I want to see Girls because I haven’t seen them in a while. I’ve also never seen Stephen Malkmus before, so I would like to see him play. Also, Dirty Beaches and Asobi Seksu.

Why should people come see your set over anyone else’s?

Y: I would never force anyone to come to see our show over somoene else’s. If someone wants to go see Chromeo over us, that’s absolutely fine with me. Actually, if anyone is seeing Chromeo, can I please tag along?

Give us some tips for conquering/surviving the 5-day festival.

Y: Spare underwear. It’s very important to keep hygienic down there. Also bring one of those beer cozy things that everyone has. It’s very important to look good at a festival.

Famous last words?

Y: “DUDE, FILM THIS!” – Jonny Rogoff, 1989 – 2011
