Earlier we cried over Michael Stipe putting pictures of his wiener on the internet, but now, we cry for real, because R.E.M. have announced their split.
From their website:
“To our Fans and Friends: As R.E.M., and as lifelong friends and co-conspirators, we have decided to call it a day as a band. We walk away with a great sense of gratitude, of finality, and of astonishment at all we have accomplished. To anyone who ever felt touched by our music, our deepest thanks for listening.”
Lest you worry, R.E.M. is much more than just a joke about penis pictures to us now; earlier, we honoured their 1991 classic Out of Time on our list of important non-Nirvana albums from that year. Their most recent album was this year’s Collapse Into Now.
