It’s been talked about and anticipated for a while now, and it seems like the documentary on 90s punk icon Kathleen Hanna, The Punk Singer, is a little closer to being finished. They simply need our $44,000 to do so. Watch the director’s statement on fundraising website Kickstarter, as well as some sneak peeks at some of the footage from the film, above.

Director Sini Anderson has funded the project so far entirely out of pocket, and with sixteen weeks of editing lined up at a post-production facility, some of the money is needed a little more urgently than whatever she’s likely already put on her credit cards.

“Unlike the production phase, where we made a beautiful film with mostly magic instead of money, we cannot squeak by without at least part of our budget in the editing process,” Anderson says on the projec’ts page. “So here we are, trying to raise the bare-bones editing budget on Kickstarter.”

As with any Kickstarter project, different donation levels come with different incentive packages, and if you’ve got $1,000 or more, that includes hanging with Hanna at the official screening afterparty.

“The Punk Singer combines twenty years of archival footage and an exclusive look at four consecutive seasons of Hanna’s present life, to tell the story of what happened, and who she is now.” As of writing, the project has secured close to $10,000.
