Listen to the new Mates of State album, 'Mountaintops'

It feels a bit hard to believe that Kansas husband-and-wife indie-pop duo Mates of State are already on their seventh album, but alas, Mountaintops hits stores next week. The full thing is available as a stream through Rolling Stone right now.
Songs like “Unless I’m Led” and “Total Serendipity” add a layer of electronic orchestration to the band’s straight-ahead, clean take, a direction that permeates the record from the gauzy wash of opener “Palomino.” The self-produced effort should please fans and casual listeners alike.
