Fantômas is one of the rare supergroups worthy of the title and one of the few whose sound is truly the sum of its parts. They’re an experi-metal nerd’s wet dream—Mr Bungle, the Melvins and Slayer meet up for nightmarish fun. Of their four albums (not counting the dreadful collaboration with the Melvins Big Bang), The Director’s Cut is easily the most digestible. Maybe the best, too. For one thing, it features actual words and lyrics (isn’t that a Hugh Grant movie) in place of Mike Patton’s usual cacophony of screeches and puke noises. Of course those are there too. It’s an album with a unique premise, taking the scores and themes of classic movies like The Godfather and Rosemary’s Baby and turning them into spazztastic metal songs.

All this is a bleedingly long preamble to two trailers for the band’s upcoming DVD, The Director’s Cut Live: A New Year’s Revolution, which, you guessed it, features the band running through the album’s tracklist…with a couple left-of-centre surprises, namely covers of Al Green’s “Simply Beautiful” and T Rex’s “Chariot Choogle.”

There’s two recently released trailers for the DVD out now, and you can watch both below.
