Each month, tons of new music from many taste-spanning genres is released into a fast-consuming, unforgiving audience; it can be tough to get a handle on what’s new before it’s on to the next. In an attempt to highlight the standout releases, at the end of each month, AUX staff re-cap the month in Punk, Metal, Indie/Pop/Rock, Hip Hop, Pop, and Dance with the top five releases in each. Consider it your cheat sheet for year-end lists.

Top 5 Dance Tracks:
August Edition

Kaskade featuring Mindy Gledhill – “Eyes”

Pop singer Mindy Gledhill was apparently a big part of Kaskade’s last studio album Dynasty (she featured on three separate tracks no less) and she again has collaborated with the house DJ/producer for “Eyes”, his latest single. The track will be included on a forthcoming two-disc album that’s set for release this October. In a recent interview, Kaskade revealed the single is about the concept that “eyes never lie. No matter what people say, you can always look into somebody’s eyes and see the truth. They’re the windows to the soul. I mean, it’s nothing that hasn’t been written about before. But I was trying to say it as only I could say it.” Have a listen and perhaps you can hear his point.

Melleefresh – “Intuition” (Darth & Vader Mix)

Toronto singer/music producer Melleny Brown, aka Melleefresh, has a new single on Beatport entitled “Intuition” featuring various remixes including one by Brazilian Electro duo Darth & Vader. Running at nearly four minutes, like all the others, this remix keeps a steady pace throughout whilst incorporating some dubstep to help even out the original beat.

Ummet Ozcan – “Reboot” (Original Mix)

“Reboot” is dutch producer Ummet Ozcan’s latest track from Sander van Doorn’s compilation album Dusk Till Doorn. It has been praised as his most successful track to date, earning the number 1 spot on the Beatport Trance list, and for good reason, it gives the trance music fan everything they want: a steady build, some melodic highs and a soothing comedown.

Mord Fustang – “The Electric Dream” (Jonathan Gering Remix)

When Estonian producer Mord Fustang put out the single “The Electric Dream” back in March, it felt like one of the few tracks that might be better off untouched by other DJs/producers, but, thankfully, that’s not how dance music works. Beatport has the exclusive Part 1 of The Remixes featuring cuts by Sam Worsley, Striker, Heartman Chess, Charlie Darker, Egoism & Electrolight and Jonathan Gering, whose dubstep mix freshens up the original without draining any of its stamina.

Afrojack and Steve Aoki featuring Miss Palmer – “No Beef” (Vocal Mix)

Recent tourmates Afrojack and Steve Aoki released a vocal mix for their track “No Beef”, which made its debut last year, this past month featuring vocals by Miss Palmer. The actual vocals don’t kick in till after the two minute mark, but by that time the listener is already swooning from the heavy bass lines and soothing bleeps. Rest assured though, when Palmer’s voice does make an appearance it’s certainly a welcoming addition.

Surprises, disappointments and albums to watch for next month

Surprise of the month: Some people would probably say that David Guetta can do no wrong, therefore I’ve been a little worried of late in case he puts out a piece of dance music that doesn’t quite offer what his previous efforts have provided. His latest track “Titanium” features Australian singer Sia and could be described as a ‘back to basics’ trance number. There ain’t nothing wrong with it regardless.

Disappointment: It takes a lot for me to sit here and write something negative about Canadian born electro-house DJ Deadmau5, but the fact remains, I was disappointed with his latest track “Where My Keys”. However his other new single “Professional Griefers” is definitely something I can get behind and wastes little time transmitting some catchy beats into the listeners brain.

Out in September: Ladytron’s fifth studio album Gravity The Seducer drops September 13 and if the tracks “Ace of Hz” and “White Elephant” are any indication of what’s to come, we should be in for an at times upbeat, at times calm record.
