One of the most anticipated new albums of the fall has got to be Wild Flag‘s self-titled debut. It’s not out until September 13, but thanks to the fine folks at NPR, you can listen to the entire thing now.
The group is undoubtedly exciting because of its roots—they’re made up of two-thirds of Sleater-Kinney, Helium’s Mary Timony, and the Minders’ Rebecca Cole—but that alone can’t guarantee a great album. Luckily, we get that too. It’s poppy and post-punky and warm and sharp, aka, everything we wanted from it.
According to NPR, the entire thing (minus vocals) was recorded live in a place called The Hangar, a Sacramento recording studio that sometimes doubles as a skate park. Amazing.
