Manic Street Preachers have announced a brief hiatus with a quote that should send shivers down the spines of longtime fans. Bassist Nicky Wire told NME this past weekend that the band was planning to “disappear for quite a long time.”
Richey Edwards, the band’s original rhythm guitarist and lyricist has been missing for 16 years. He was presumed dead three years ago.
“Ideally we have to push ourselves to do something that we haven’t done before. But I do feel it is going to be at least two or three years before we come back after this greatest hits collection,” added Wire.
The next Manic Street Preachers album 70 Songs Of Hatred And Failure has not been cancelled, but its safe to assume it won’t be out for a while.
